After Konstantin met with Thomas, he called Ayanna into the meeting. Ayanna advised them to let their clients know there was an accounting glitch in their system, but the issue was resolved. He should also reassure them they reimbursed all accounts affected by the software malfunction.

Konstantin ordered Thomas to send out the notifications immediately to all clients affected, including Ian Gusev. After going through all the tainted accounts, Konstantin and his accounting department, along with Ayanna, had returned most of the money into the accounts that Rachel stole from.

The only problem was the money that Rachel took from one of Gusev’s accounts was off the books. Thanks to his dead uncle, he had to continue to manage those illegal accounts, and he couldn’t handle them as they did all their other accounts.

He still needed to make Gusev’s accounts right. Konstantin was meeting with Natalya that afternoon to discuss information she uncovered in the records. He already knew what she uncovered, but he would let her tell him.

Later that afternoon, Konstantin’s secretary buzzed his phone to let him know that Natalya Lenkov had arrived for their meeting.

“Send her in,” he said, already irritated that he needed to have this meeting. He knew she wasn’t an accountant, but he was going to play along to see if she slipped up.

Natalya walked into the office and shook Konstantin’s hand before sitting down.

“It’s always nice to see you, Konstantin,” she said.

“Same here,” Konstantin responded. “Would you like something to drink?”

“If it weren’t so early in the afternoon, I’d ask for a double shot at vodka, but I’ll just settle for a cup of tea,” she said as she looked at Konstantin’s secretary.

Konstantin nodded, and his secretary left to retrieve the tea, closing the door behind herself.

Natalya gave him a serious glare. “Konstantin, I don’t have good news. I don’t know what happened in your accounting department, but almost two million dollars is missing from Mr. Gusev’s account. Whoever took the money, commingled the account funds and disbursed money…,”

There was a knock at the door, and the secretary entered with the cup of tea. They both waited for her to leave before Natalya continued.

“I’m sure you’ve had your people look over the records and I know everything that I’m saying does not come as a surprise. However, before this gets really messy, you need to figure out how you’ll make these accounts right. I need to report back to Gusev that the money is missing. I’m wrapping up my report this week and you will get a final version by Friday.” She took a sip of her tea.

Konstantin remained quiet as she went through the information.

“There was a substantial amount of money missing from Gusev’s special accounts. I don’t know how the Coalition will handle this situation, and honestly, that’s out of the realm of what I do,” Natalya said with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.

Konstantin’s office phone buzzed, and he hit the button. “Yes.”

“Mr. Icarus, Ms. Selassie, is here.”

“Send her in.” He turned his attention to Natalya.
